"Greetings from Oklahoma"
Our friends at Abell Community Church outside of Guthrie, OK are going through a difficult time. Their Pastor, Van Hudson, had a medical event which has left him in a rehab hospital with times of severe pain and struggling to get back movement in his legs. Shortly after that, Norval Gooch, a dear friend and faithful church member, unexpectedly was diagnosed with cancer and went to be with the Lord three weeks later. As a result Melva and I came to Oklahoma to assist the church for three weeks. Please pray for this wonderful group of believers as they rebound from these trials, and especially for Pastor Van's healing. Please pray as well for the pastor's financial needs and a for a handicap access van.
A word of thanks: "Thank You" to all of you who sent notes of encouragement following the passing of my mother, Martha Barton, in mid-February. We have experienced a wonderful peace at her being "promoted to glory"! Of course there is the myriad of things left to wrap up. Please pray we get everything accomplished and sell her condo to the right person, at the right time and at the right price.
Gunnison: I finished the ski season strong and without knee pain for the first time in many years! Up until the last day I was able to share Jesus with fellow employees and guests. Thank you for your prayers.
Upcoming: Our annual ministry dinners have been set back a few weeks because of our ministry in OK. We'll be contacting you about them soon. This year we hope to be in Colorado Springs, Dallas and Oklahoma City. On April 27th and May 4th I preach in two churches in Gunnison. May 25th and June 1st we share in Pitkin, CO.
SAVE THE DATE: July 25th we're gathering in Gunnison to celebrate our 45th year of ministry. We're planning a day of fellowship followed by a wonderful evening of giving thanks to the Lord for His faithfulness! There will be special hotel rates available and we've already heard from folks coming from KY, GA, OK, and CO.
Rich and Shelba: Shelba is finally off all medication and we trust she is completely healed. Rich and Shelba hope to travel at the end of May to Missouri. In the meantime they are covering all the bases in Gunnison while we're gone.
New Missionaries: Aaron and Andrea Taylor have been in missionary training in San Diego and are headed to Haiti on a short-term mission. Aaron was a successful businessman after graduation from
Western State and last year sensed God's call to full-time service in missions. Cisco and Naomi Villasenior are headed long-term as a pastor in Mexico. Both men received Jesus while here in Gunnison.
Also, please pray for the ongoing work of Cathy as she transitions from China to Thailand, Diane as she serves in Jackson, MS, Cory and Tiffany in Kenya, Brent and Lorae in CO, Rick and Colleen in the middle east, Frank and Steph in Costa Rica and Rick and Susie in the northeast. God is soooo good to allow us the privilege of encouraging these and others in following His call. An answered prayer: Frank Goetschel (Costa Rica) was diagnosed with untreatable cancer several weeks ago. After much prayer, the doctors now believe he may have been misdiagnosed and can be treated. We're trusting God for complete healing! Also pray for John Schroeder, a faithful brother fighting cancer.
Finances: The Lord continues to provide every need abundantly! Thank you for your faithful love, prayers and financial investment. The Lord has been pleased to bring wonderful results. We trust He will bless you richly.
Family: Melva and I are catching up on some much needed rest between meetings in OK and we continue to enjoy good health. Stephen and Joy (Hannah and Bethan) are seeing God's hand wonderfully provide in Scotland with Stephen preaching almost every week somewhere in the United Kingdom. Nick and Rebekah are doing well in Vail with Nick and his restaurant winning another culinary award! Steve and Annie as well as Tim and Sara are working and serving the Lord in Los Angeles.
All in all, it's been a crazy fall, winter and spring. Melva and I ended up pretty drained physically and emotionally; still, His grace was and is sufficient! Thank you for all your prayers. We don't just appreciate them; we depend on them each day. We are so grateful for the privilege we have of serving in our small way. God is soooooo good!
Thank you for your daily prayers!
