A short February but a packed one! The month included a lot of teaching; teaching skiing, teaching our Bible Institute class, teaching through Luke on Saturday evenings, as well as helping lead worship for the annual High Ground Men's Bible/ski retreat in Beaver Creek, CO. It also included some interesting medical moments. And of course, there were weddings, singing in church and watching the Lord Jesus change lives around us. All in all, a great month thanks to your prayers.
Some highlights: While skiing, one of my adult students turned and asked me, "What do you mean by having a 'relationship with Jesus'". What a wonderful opening to share the gospel. As you probably know, I try not to "preach" to my students, just prayerfully mention something about the Lord during the lesson and allow the Holy Spirit to open the door as He directs. Another highlight was during our Tuesday night Bible Institute class where we're studying the book of Acts. A man turned to me and said, "I think I'm being filled with the Holy Spirit!" When I asked what he meant, he shared about a new joy, direction and power in his walk with Christ.
During our annual men's ski retreat I was able to rekindle relationships with men from around the country. Men like Charlie Duke (astronaut who walked on the moon), Dick Able (Air Force General-ret who brought the POWs out of Hanoi), Dr. Gene Getz (former Dallas Seminary professor-pastor-author), Dr. Walter Bradley (Baylor University), and sooooo many other wonderful brothers in Christ. To ski together, worship together, and pray with such men, wow!
Family: Melva is substitute teaching almost every day and having a wonderful influence at the schools. Of course, she is constantly working behind the scenes keeping our ministry wheels turning as well. Stephen, Joy, Hannah and Bethan (Scotland) are going strong with Stephen celebrating his 40th birthday and serving in his local church as well as preaching in various locations. He would appreciate your prayers to continue for a more permanent ministry assignment. Bek (Vail, CO) is doing an excellent job as an assistant manager of a restaurant. Steve (Hollywood) had great news as one television production company called him for a three-day assignment, and then another called for 6-8 weeks of work! This was truly an answer to prayer. Tim and Sara (Los Angeles) are prospering and Sara's dad is holding up well and a potential kidney donor has been located.
Health: A big "thank you" to all who have inquired about and pray for our health. It's been an interesting month. I had a couple of times where I experienced dizziness which concerned us. I checked into the ski area clinic where they did quite a few tests as did our local hospital. They couldn't find anything wrong so perhaps it was dehydration-overextending myself-low potassium-low electrolytes? Please pray as well for my left foot (collapsing tendon) and right foot (toe issue). Melva had to have a tooth removed and is awaiting an implant. All in all we're fine and starting to long for our new bodies in heaven I've tried to cut back on my schedule some as well, although that's been more difficult. The opportunities to share continue to open up and my work schedule is busier than ever. We have some open time at the end of March!
Rich and Shelba Townsend: Rich and Shelba are looking forward to joining us full-time in May! Their schedule is already filling with requests for preaching, weddings and covering for us while we're on the road. Please add Rich and Shelba to your regular prayer list!
Finances: Thanks be to God who is faithful, and to each of you who respond to His leading by investing in this ministry! The finances are holding up well.
Firefighter Devotional Books and Bibles: Recently I checked in with the Fellowship of Christian Firefighters office (FCFIHQ@aol.com, 1-800-322-9848). To date over 6,000 copies of the daily devotional book for firefighters and EMS folks have been shipped around the world. As you may remember, I had the privilege of contributing almost 40 of the devotionals. I encourage you to pray about ordering a case for your local fire station. If you order them through the FCF a portion of the proceeds support their great work. Also, ask about the "Answering the Call" firefighter New Testaments. They are extremely popular with fire and EMS personnel.
March 18: We've been invited to speak to the local Catholic Church's Lenten soup supper
March 2, 3, and 17: I teach forest fire classes
April 3-7: Services at Faith Baptist Church in Waynesville, MO
April 10-12: Services at Vistoso Community Church in Tucson, AZ
April 17-24: Services at Abell Church in Guthrie, OK
May 29: Service at Pitkin Community Church in Pitkin, CO
Other dates are still pending. Please pray specifically for each of these opportunities; that the Holy Spirit will prepare our hearts and the hearts of those who come, and bring a great harvest to His kingdom!
Breaking News!! Melva and I have just been asked to lead worship on the "Journeys of Paul" cruise June 2-12 with Dr. Gene Getz. If the Lord works out all the details, we will have the privilege of visiting the sites of Paul's missionary journeys, sitting under some great teaching and leading worship times aboard ship. (Check it out at www.MorningStarTours.com) And we'll be there on our 40th wedding anniversary!
Your prayers and love undergird us daily! Thank You! We love and appreciate each of you!
