Fires around the country, new believers, and answered prayers: During June I was blessed to see a wonderful young man give his heart to Jesus, was dispatched to fires in New Mexico and Arizona, and a young woman you have been praying for has been healed of cancer!
During a recent Saturday Evening Worship service a young couple approached me about doing their wedding. When I met with them a week later I sensed that the husband-to-be didn’t understand the plan of salvation. He stated that he was “spiritual” but didn’t really know Jesus. When I explained how to have a living, saving, 24/7 relationship with the Lord, he carefully considered his decision and then responded to Jesus! They live over one hundred miles away so I contacted a local pastor who is following up.
A few days later I was dispatched to a forest fire in New Mexico, and then to one in Arizona. As had happened earlier this summer in Colorado, I was able to share the Lord with several firefighters and give away firefighter New Testaments. In AZ I wanted to hold a chapel service after shift but needed to find the Incident Commander and get his permission. As I pulled into the parking lot, guess who pulled in beside me and began a conversation?! He gave permission and the Lord brought 10 believers and unbelievers including Native Americans to the service. I had given away all my Bibles but will send out more.
A few months ago I asked you to pray for Cathy Gallaher, one of our former students who has been serving with Campus Crusade and Pioneers in Asia for 10 years. She developed breast cancer and returned to the States for treatment. After her early treatments the doctors were concerned that the tumor wasn’t getting any smaller. We prayed over the phone with Cathy and anointed her with oil by proxy at her request. Now the doctors report the tumor has virtually disappeared! Please continue to pray for total healing. Our good friend and missionary Dan Curtis, as well as Bob Moffat, also need healing from cancer. Please lift Dan and Bob up to Jesus as you rejoice over Cathy.
Melva: The Lord has kept me busy and blessed these past few weeks also. Besides helping Rick with Saturday Evening Worship, I served at our local church’s Vacation Bible School and attended a wonderful women’s conference (“Deeper Still”) in Denver. The speakers included Beth Moore, Kay Arthur and Priscilla Shirer. Lord willing I will help teach a follow-up Bible study here in the next few weeks. And of course I’m always busy with our ministry needs.
Family: Joy’s pregnancy is going well in Scotland. Her husband Stephen is preaching quite a bit at various churches while he seeks the Lord’s direction. Bek is now assistant manager at a new restaurant in Vail, Steve is still in LA and Tim and Sarah are there as well. Please continue to pray for Sarah’s dad, Ken, to be healed of kidney disease.
Finances: Last month started off pretty slow, humanly speaking. But, as each of you prayed for us, the Lord graciously provided and we are only slightly behind. We try to never ask for money, knowing that He will guide the gifts and the givers. Thank you to each of you who pray for us regularly. And thank you to those who feel led to invest in His kingdom through us. We always encourage you to support your local church first, then us as He leads.
Coming Up: On July 18 we hold our annual Cattlemen’s Days Rodeo Service here in Gunnison and on the 24th I conduct a wedding. Other than that I will be focusing on my Doctorate, our Saturday Evening Worship, Thursday Morning Ministry Breakfast and forest fire assignments. In September we hope to be in Gallatin, TN and then journey to Scotland for the birth of our new grandchild.
Prayer Requests: Please pray for the anointing of the Holy Spirit as we share. While I was in AZ one of the Christian firefighters told me that when I walked into the camp he sensed the Lord in me. That is the anointing of the Spirit, and I know it is the result of your prayers. Please continue to pray for Dan, Ken and Bob’s healing, for Bek to fall in love with Jesus, for Joy’s pregnancy and for our son-in-love Stephen to have a full-time job where the Lord wants him. Please pray for our son Steve to find the right job in his area of passion; film and television production.
Thank You Sooo Much! You are loved and appreciated.
By His grace and to His glory,
Rick and Melva
