“Marching On With Jesus”
February Blessings! Last week I had the privilege of helping lead worship at “High Ground”, a men’s Bible-ski retreat in Beaver Creek, CO. Upon returning I shared at our Saturday evening worship service and the next morning Melva and I conducted services in Lake City, CO at Grace Fellowship. Grace began out of a Bible study we started over 25 years ago. What a neat church family! In a town with a winter population of less than 500, they have 100 or more attending. I was filling in for Pastor Lyn Lampert who was covering for the Baptist pastor who was in Honduras on a mission trip!
Our Saturday evening worship service averages 20 in attendance, at least half of whom are either not active in any church or unsaved. So far 4 have professed Christ! We give half of the offering to missions each month (averaging almost $1000 a month) and are using “under-utilized” folks to help with the services rather than regular church workers.
Other February blessings included sharing with Mothers of Pre-Schoolers (MOPS), preaching at the Paonia, (CO) Christian Center, the Willows Assisted Living Center, and of course our weekly Bible Classes and ministry training classes. Currently we are leading 5 meetings a week and teaching skiing five days a week. Please pray for God’s strength and anointing.
The forgotten Bible! A few weeks ago a lift operator came up to me during lunch and asked me about my faith. He also has an interest in firefighting. I mentioned our firefighter Bible and he wanted one. For two weeks he forgot to pick it up from the sales desk. Though he kept forgetting, one of sales staff read it! Please pray for Cass and Dawn.
Speaking of firefighting, AMG publishing has arranged with the Fellowship of Christian Firefighters (FCF) to use some of my fire stories in a new devotional book they are publishing. Please pray that the Lord will direct the project and use the stories. Proceeds will help the FCF.
This time of year I start teaching firefighter safety classes. These are required for all wild land firefighters who go out on the fire line. Teaching these classes not only gives me an opportunity to help these men and women have a better safety awareness, but they also give me an opportunity to let my light shine for the Lord and make firefighter Bibles available. This year I am scheduled to teach a total of 7 classes for Federal, State and Volunteer firefighters.
Family: Joy and Stephen (Scotland) are expecting baby #2 in September! Please pray for a healthy pregnancy and for them to be led to the right church to serve. Bek (Vail) and I had breakfast together recently; please keep praying that she will draw close to Jesus. Steve (Hollywood) had a promising interview with a production company! Tim and Sarah (LA) are doing well. Melva has been substitute teaching almost every day and I have a cold this weekend, probably the result of going too hard. Thank you for praying for our family.
Finances: The Lord continues to provide every need! Thank you for your prayers and faithful investments in this work.
Prayer requests: Please pray for Cathy Gallagher (former student here and missionary in Asia for 20 years) who is fighting breast cancer. Rejoice with us that Frank Goetschel’s surgery in Costa Rica went very well. Please pray for Pastor Dan Curtis (Guthrie, OK) who has a serious cancer. Please pray that Melva and I will walk in the anointing of the Holy Spirit and the services we share in will be filled with Jesus’ presence.
Coming Up: Please pray for the following meetings and join us if you can! Colorado Springs (4/5) dinner with friends and supporters at the Mason Jar (North) Restaurant at 6:30pm. Amarillo, TX (4/7) Singing for the Park Place Towers retirement facility. Dallas TX (4/8) dinner with friends and supporters (Call 214-369-2268 for details), Oklahoma City, (4/10) lunch with friends and supporters followed by a Board of Directors* meeting at Johnnies Hamburgers in Edmond at 1pm. Guthrie, OK (4/11-18) special meetings at Abell Church. Indianapolis, IN (4/23) speaking for the Fellowship of Christian Firefighters Annual Appreciation dinner at Ritter Ave Free Methodist Church. Louisville, KY (4/25) preaching for Lakewood Baptist Church. Gallatin, TN (5/2) preaching for Cragfont Baptist Church. Pitkin, CO (5/30) Pitkin Community Church. *Please pray for wisdom as our Board sets priorities for the future.
Thank You for your faithful prayers and support! There are more doors open to minister than ever before. We know without the Holy Spirit working through your prayers we would quickly fail.
May the Lord Jesus richly bless you and yours! Rick and Melva
