Wow! Another month of blessings in so many forms! Your prayers have opened many doors.

Happenings in Hotchkiss: I just returned from holding services in Hotchkiss, CO, a town of just over 1000 people. The Lord Jesus really blessed as the church members prayed and reached out and we saw good turnouts for each service. A special blessing was folks coming in from the surrounding communities of Delta, Paonia and Austin, CO. On Sunday evening we had a special service honoring the local fire and ambulance responders. The Lord assembled a full house as firemen from Gunnison and Grand Junction came to share their testimonies. I met the local fire chief last year on a fire and had given him a firefighter New Testament. Even though he professes to be an agnostic, he called and asked for a case to give away to his fire and ambulance crews. Each night the Lord worked on hearts and I believe many lives were touched for Christ! Thank you for your prayers.

Other exciting happenings in September included seeing our “called to ministry” group grow to 20 students, holding a high school cowboy church service, holding a chapel for our college football team, doing two radio interviews (one for Moody Broadcasting “Prime Time America”) on firefighting and Christian witness, helping with a memorial service for 9/11, as well as working on my doctorate, teaching a weekly Bible study and preparing for starting our West Elk Bible Institute October 6. Each of you is part of these outreaches and blessings through your prayers and support.

Writing Ministry: As some of you know, I had the privilege of writing a book for beginning evangelists for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, and that I am re-writing Charles Spurgeon’s “Lectures to My Students” in modern English. What you may not know is that each month the Lord allows me to write articles for “The Encourager”, a Christian firefighter magazine that goes around the world. This month I had two readers contact me stating that the Lord had used the articles to encourage their walk. The first responded to an article I had written about the tragedy of suicide. The second reader was a Forest Service employee who shared that not only had our articles encouraged her, but she discovered I had given her husband a Bible on a fire in CA. Yea Lord!

Family: As you may remember, my father had been in an Alzheimer’s unit for a while now. On Sept. 19th he went to be with the Lord. The comforting thing to Melva and I is that we had been reconciled after my parent’s divorce and had the privilege of praying together often. His family allowed me to lead the graveside service. Stephen, Joy and Hannah (9months) are getting ready to meet us in Los Angeles for Tim’s wedding (Nov 7). Stephen is still serving in churches and working while they wait for the right pastoring opportunity. Rebekah continues to recover from knee surgery, please pray for her to fall in love with Jesus. Steve has found a job which allows him to stay in LA and develop his writing skills for Hollywood. Tim and Sarah continue to prepare for their marriage.

Upcoming: Oct 6 we hold our first West Elk Bible Institute class. October 16-18 I lead a men’s retreat in Crescent, OK. October 30 we leave for LA to prepare for the wedding. November 2-3 I teach at the Horizon School of Evangelism in San Diego, November 7th Tim and Sarah’s wedding, and then I settle down to teach skiing, lead our Bible studies and Bible Institute class, and a possible trip to KY for special meetings. Oh yes, and begin the doctoral project writing…..

Finances: Thank you for your continued prayers for us. We know that if the prayer is there and we are obedient, the ministry will be anointed and the finances will come as well. This year we are helping support a man and his family who is serving as our local Volunteer Fire Department chaplain, college football team chaplain and Christian Challenge (BSU) director. Your faithful gifts allow this to happen as well as all the other ministries we have the privilege of doing. Finances are a bit tight at this time so thank you again!

Prayer Requests: For the anointing of the Holy Spirit on us daily! Please pray for Melva and I to recover from lingering colds and for my Achilles tendon to heal. Please pray for Tim and Sarah’s wedding, for Stephen’s place of ministry to become apparent, for our upcoming meetings, for our Bible Institute students and for my doctoral work. Thank You! A special note to those of you who send us prayer requests, we pray over each one.
In His grace and to His glory!
