It’s May, Where Are The Flowers?
Hi Everyone! It’s May 13th and we had snow showers again last night. This “global warming” is about to freeze me to death! Actually, springtime in the Rockies is always a mix of beautiful, sunny days with a little snow, so we should be used to it.
April finished strong! Once again, several of our college students are headed out to Christian ministry around the world this summer! A few days after returning from our trip to Scotland we left for Oklahoma where we met with several of our Ministry Board, friends and supporters, and held eight days of services.
Miracle at the Board Meeting: During the board meeting, one of our friends expressed concern over a nephew who had been arrested and put in jail. A pastor at the other end of the table asked which jail he was in and what was his name. When the name was mentioned, the pastor smiled and said, “I was the officer who took him to court and was able to talk with him.” The next day the pastor/prison guard shared again with this young man! Talk about rejoicing around the table that night. The Lord is working on that fellow. Please pray for him.
The meetings in Guthrie, OK went very well. The Lord blessed us with college students from three Oklahoma Universities who shared their faith with the group. Several of these students are going on mission trips this year as well. We prayed for servicemen and women, fire and police workers, and enjoyed 8 days of worship and the Word. We’re so grateful to the folks at Abell Community Church for letting us come back for over 20 years and share the grace of God with them. Please pray for them as they seek a youth leader and as they complete their new facility.
Wyoming: In 2000, I took a fire engine to the small town of Esterbrook, WY to back up the local Forest Service folks. (What a beautiful area, everyone ought to visit it. There is one church building, a log structure that sits in the middle of a meadow with Laramie Peak behind it.) While on that assignment, I was invited to share in their worship service. God did a wonderful thing! Several trusted Jesus as Savior and Lord! We’ve kept in touch over the years and they invited us to return. We had the joy of worshipping and sharing with these gracious saints and staying in the Parson’s Nook B&B owned by their pastor. We hope to return again soon.
Rapid City: This trip was postponed again to a later date. The Lord will open the opportunity to teach at the Black Hills Biblical Institute in His time. As a result of the postponement we have been able to catch up at home and I can focus on the 2000 pages of reading and 30 pages of papers due before my next Doctor of Ministry seminar at the end of June.
Another Miracle: Our ski instructor friend, Jacki, contracted a potentially deadly disease last year. We visited and prayed with her on the phone and during her hospital visits in Denver. She reports that she is only the 3rd person in the past 20 years at that hospital to be able to discontinue dialysis! Please pray that Jacki and her husband Brian will come to know God’s love fully as well as His healing.
Upcoming: Please pray for us as we share in Cripple Creek, CO (5/18), Pitkin, CO (5/25), the Colorado Wildfire Academy (6/1-6) and Livermore, CO (6/8). At the end of June (6/23-27) I’ll travel to Louisville, KY to take my next DMin seminar. I’m excited to work with my good friend and Board Member Dr. Tim Beougher at Southern Seminary as well as study evangelism and church growth. After these opportunities, Lord willing, I will be involved in firefighting ministry.
Special 40th Anniversary Celebration Meeting! Please mark your calendars for a special Ministry Celebration Dinner and Board of Directors meeting in Oklahoma City, Friday, October 31, 2008. We will gather to celebrate 40 years of God’s faithfulness to Rick Barton Ministries, share remembrances of the past, and visions for the future.
Yes, RBM started in the spring of 1969 shortly after I received Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord at Western State College. Almost immediately after trusting Christ, the Lord led me to start a small Christian coffee house on the college campus. The coffee house eventually became a Bible Study of over 100 students, a church reaching out into several nearby communities, and a springboard to send out hundreds of students into long and short-term ministry around the world! Great is His Faithfulness!
Please let us know that you’re planning to join with us in this time of praise, prayer and celebration, so that we can schedule the appropriate size room and help with accommodations. If you absolutely can’t come, please send a note of testimony and we’ll share it with the group.
Family: Melva’s latest “cat scan” showed only a few remaining blood clots in her left lung. Her blood pressure has also responded well to prayer and medication. Please pray that her lungs will clear completely and she will be able to go off all medication. My PSA keeps coming back cancer-free and my voice has recovered from the beating it took this winter. Praise the Lord and thank you for all your prayers! Joy and Stephen are recovering from our visit and Stephen is almoooost finished with his last semester in Bible College. Please pray for God’s direction as to where they are to serve next. Rebekah is currently traveling internationally; please pray for her walk with the Lord. Steve leaves for the west coast helping lead a church youth service trip, and Tim is settling into a new job in Los Angeles.
Finances: Two new churches have joined our support team this year along with several individuals. Thank you soooo much! As you know, we don’t solicit funds. We share the opportunities the Lord has given us and He touches people’s hearts to join in. We always have everything we need, at just the right time. Praise Him!
God Bless each of you! You are loved and appreciated,
