GIVING THANKS WITH A GRATEFUL HEART
Thanksgiving greetings in the love of Jesus! How many things do we have to be thankful for? We are so grateful for our family, our friends, and most of all, our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Today is another crystal clear day in the Colorado high country. A day which reminds us of why we put up with a “few chilly days” each winter.
What a year so far! We’ve had the privilege of sharing Jesus around the country, on forest fires, in churches and on the ski slopes. And what a great group of college students He’s allowed us to train, equip and encourage! A special highlight has been to arrange and hold chapel services for the college football team.
This month we’re including a rundown of 2006 ministry highlights. Your prayers, encouragement and financial support have helped all of this to happen. You have made an investment in every life we have touched for Jesus. Every Bible we’ve given away, every worker we’ve helped train, and every person who’s prayed to receive Christ, carries a part of you with them. Thank You!
Road Trips: This month we’re headed to Colorado Springs (Nov. 3-5), Dallas (Nov. 7), Bowie, TX (Nov. 8) and Oklahoma City (Nov. 10). We’ll be speaking in churches and meeting with as many of you as we can. If you’re able to join us, and didn’t receive an invitation in the mail, give us a call on our cell phone (970-209-8006) for times and locations. In mid-December we’ll be sharing in San Diego and then head to Los Angeles for our son Tim’s graduation from BIOLA University December 15! Please pray for each of these trips as we seek to share the Great News of Jesus!
Upcoming Activities: Our work with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes on the campus continues with training students for ministry and outreaches, ski school clinics will start in mid-November followed by my 38th year of teaching skiing, and another Doctor of Ministry class in January (with the pre-required of 2000 pages of reading!)
Voices from the past: What a blessing to hear from so many of you each month! We had a visit from Colorado Ski Hall of Fame member Steve Rieschl. Steve runs a ministry center near Buena Vista these days. Kevin Lee, a student from the 70’s stopped by. He’s now Dr. Lee, university professor and Christian author in North Carolina and sponsoring the Campus Crusade ministry there. Skip Pritchard called. Skip was a football player/coach with us, went on to work with Young Life and is now serving in a church in WA. Bill Benson still works in Young Life headquarters and his son Matt is involved with our ministry. Cisco, a recent graduate is now a leader with the Horizon School of Evangelism (HSE) in San Diego. He reports that his team just returned from sharing the gospel with thousands in Korea and Poland! This is some of the fruit of your faithful prayers and support.
Our first conference at THE COVE! May 4-6, 2007 we are holding a conference at the Billy Graham Training Center near Ashville, NC. We will enjoy 3 days of fellowship, sharing in the Word, and enjoying one of the most beautiful training centers in the world. Space is very limited this first year so please contact us right away if you’re interested in joining us.
A special “Thank You”: “My name is Brent Kinseth. I am a 2003 graduate of Western State College where I was a decathlete on the track team and active in leadership of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. I am currently working in real estate, helping lead worship in my church, and helping Rick and Melva with the FCA program at Western. Lord willing, in February, I will begin a 5-month ministry training program in San Diego (HSE). I want to thank each of you for your prayers and financial support of Rick Barton Ministries. You have helped hundreds of students such as myself get a firm foundation for life and ministry.” (Note: Please pray for Brent as he raises support and prepares for this next step.)
We’ve entered the 19th century! Not only do we have a website which is updated monthly, www.rickbartonministries.org, but we are sending out monthly newsletters by email to those who prefer electronic mailing to conventional mail. Please let us know by phone (970-641-3583) or email (email@example.com) if you would like us to change you over to email. Also, some of you have asked if you could donate to Rick Barton Ministries by automatic withdrawal. We are able to do that if you’d like.
Finances: Last month we asked you to pray about the ministry finances. We were running low and our college ministry expenses are increasing. We received a generous gift that brought us even. Please continue to trust God with us for every need to be provided according to His riches in Christ! Our long-range vision includes a training center near the campus (we currently meet in restaurants), and being able to underwrite college students as interns.
Thanksgiving: We thank God each day for His faithfulness. We thank Him for the joy of His presence, the privilege of serving Him, and friends such as you. May this Thanksgiving be the best ever for you and yours!
In His love and grace,
Rick and Melva
