Greetings in Jesus’ joy! I started writing this month’s newsletter on the “red-eye” flight two nights ago. I decided I’d better start over after some rest.
What a wonderful ending for May and June! Beginning with services in Pitkin, CO (Where we’ve shared for over 30 summers.) we then journeyed to Cortez, CO to teach in the Colorado Wildfire Academy, then preaching in a wonderful church in Livermore, CO followed by an outdoor service in Rapid City, SD (a touch of paradise), and finally a ministry/vacation back in Melva’s home of Kauai, HI. All these things happened because of the grace of God working through your prayers!
A few highlights: With the help of a Christian-owned firefighter supply vendor, we gave away over a case of firefighter New Testaments while I taught at the Academy. In Livermore we had a tent meeting and the Lord brought in several souls that the church had been praying for. In Rapid City we had the privilege of leading a young woman to Christ in the hallway of the church building and then shared at an open-air service in the city park. A special blessing during the South Dakota trip was meeting with two couples that had served with us in ministry in the 70’s and 80’s.
The Hawaii trip was a combination of blessings. Melva had served as a flower girl for her cousin’s wedding 50 years ago (and she’s still 39). They asked for the wedding party to return if possible for the anniversary and so we prayed that she could go and see her family. Then, the Lord sent me on a fire assignment in Phoenix. My 80+ hour weeks not only covered the cost of her trip but mine as well. (A special thing about the Phoenix fire assignment was that I only had a two-day window in which to be sent out, since our commitments are for fourteen days and I had to return for preaching trips. The call literally came as I prayed.)
We had no invitations to preach when we arrived in Hawaii but within a few days the local Calvary Chapel asked us to take two services the next weekend. Yea Lord! We had rest, time with Melva’s relatives, and the chance to sing and teach.
Special joys while on Kauai included meeting with Melva’s relatives, (including more who have trusted Jesus), meeting one of Melva’s high school classmates who received the Lord at an Amway convention, as well as a former student from Western State who’s now in ministry and Bible College.
Coming up: I’m on call for fires and they expect me to leave soon. But, if not, we have been asked to share in Cripple Creek, CO on the 9th and a rodeo service the 16th. Please pray for God’s direction and provision. The fire-work is a ministry and also pays for Tim’s college. However, we hate to turn down churches that want us to come. Our Colorado Springs dinner will be November 3rd, please mark your calendar! Oklahoma City and Dallas dates have not been determined.
Family: Joy and Stephen continue to be blessed in Scotland at Bible College. They’ve been involved in conferences and outreaches and Stephen is preaching more often. Bekah is working in Vail and doing some shirt designs. She did a great job designing our album covers! Steve is working at the Community Church and moving into his new apartment. Tim is working and gearing up for his last semester at BIOLA. Please pray for Tim to know the Lord’s leading after graduation. He’s currently praying about attending the School of Evangelism in San Diego for 5 months.
Prayer Requests: For my friend Kent (Campus Crusade staff) recovering from a terrible accident, for Walter and Dick, great men of God fighting cancers, for Pastor Bob’s dad in HI with heart problems, for Alta having cancerous lumps removed, Will with a brain tumor, Imogene for general health needs, for the Lord’s anointing as we try to love and serve Him in the Spirit, and for my knee to be healed.
Special Thanks: Every time the ministry finances seem about to run out, several of you sense the Lord’s leading and step up with prayer and a gift. Thanks for your faithfulness. A big welcome to those of you who are new to our support team!
Thank You! You are soooo loved and appreciated.
